A BLP Demand Model of Product-Level Market Shares with Complementarity

چکیده

Applied researchers most often estimate the demand for differentiated products assuming that at one item can be purchased. Yet simultaneous multiple purchases are pervasive. Ignoring interdependence among lead to erroneous counterfactuals, in particular, because complementarities ruled out. I consider identification and estimation of a random coefficient discrete choice model bundles, namely sets products, when only product-level market shares available. This last feature arises aggregate as opposed individual available, very common phenomenon practice. Following classical approach with data, two-step method. First, using novel inversion result which exhibit Hicksian complementarity, recover mean utilities from shares. Second, infer structural parameters while dealing price endogeneity, use instrumental variables. propose practically useful GMM estimator whose implementation is straightforward, essentially standard BLP estimator. Finally, Ready-To-Eat (RTE) cereals milk US. The estimates suggest RTE overall complementary synergy consumption crucially depends on their characteristics. such results misleading counterfactuals.

Estimating Demand for Differentiated Products with Error in Market Shares

In this paper we introduce a new approach to estimating differentiated product demand system that allows for error in market shares as measures of choice probabilities. In particular, our approach allows for products with zero sales in the data, which is a frequent phenomenon that arises in product differentiated markets but lies outside the scope of existing demand estimation techniques. Altho...

Optimal Production Policy for Multi-product with Inventory-level-dependent Demand in Segmented Market

Market segmentation has emerged as the primary means by which firms achieve optimal production policy. In this paper, we use market segmentation approach in multi-product inventory system with inventory-level-dependent demand. The objective is to make use of optimal control theory to solve the inventory-production problem and develop an optimal production policy that minimizes the total cost as...

Complementarity Demand Functions and Pricing Models for Multi - product Markets

In contrast to single-product pricing models, multi-product pricing models have been much less studied because of the complexity of multi-product demand functions. It is highly nontrivial to construct a multi-product demand function on the entire set of nonnegative prices, not to mention approximating the real market demands to a desirable accuracy. Thus, many decision-makers use incomplete dem...

Strategic complementarity of information acquisition in a financial market with discrete demand shocks

A simple model of financial market with rational learning and without friction is presented in which the value of private information increases with the mass of informed individuals, contrary to the property presented by Grossman and Stiglitz (1980). The key assumption is the possibility of independent discrete shocks on the fundamental value and on an exogenous demand.
